S.U.R & S.C Junior Rugby Information 2022

If you are interested in playing Junior Rugby, Rip Rugby or Rippa Rugby at Silverdale United Rugby & Sports Club we would be delighted to have you REGISTER ONLINE NOW.  You will find the link in the Junior section of this Silverdale Rugby website.  (Existing 2021 players have been emailed their personal registration form from last season – please check your contact details are correct and submit your form for this 2022  season).  If you did not receive your form, please check your junk/spam box.  Thank you.

Silverdale Junior Rugby Grades:

J1-J6 Tackle Rugby for boys and girls

J7-J8 (5-7 yrs) Rippa Rugby for boys and girls.

U9 Rippa rugby for girls & boys

Girls Rip Rugby -  U11, U13 and U15

Boys Rip Rugby - U11, U13 and U15 

If you have registered your child online to play junior rugby this season, you still need to bring your child/children to a registration evening to weigh in and pay subs (if you haven't made an online payment).  Your child will not be put in a team unless you have attended a registration evening. 

Junior Rugby Registration Evenings for 2022

Held at the Silverdale United Rugby & Sports Club

Tuesday 22nd March, 6-8pm

Wednesday 23rd March, 6-8pm 

Thursday 24th March, 6-8pm

Once you have weighed in /paid subs at a registration evening you will be contacted by your coach around the end of March to tell you what team you are in and where and when your first training is.

2022 Player Subs

Junior Rugby Subs (one player) - $135 per player – includes the $30 North Harbour levy per player.

Family sub (2 children from the same family)  - $235 per family -  includes the $30 North Harbour levy per player.

Family sub (3 or more children from the same family) - $295 per family - includes the $30 North Harbour levy for all player.

The grade your child gets put into will depend on age/weight.  You can view the age/weight chart at the end of this document or in the Junior section on our website.  (Rippa Rugby and Rip Rugby does not have weight restrictions).

J7-J8 Rippa Rugby

Rippa Rugby is for 5-7 year old boys and girls.  Rippa Rugby is played on Saturday mornings 8am-9am  at Silverdale Rugby Club.  Training is held prior to their game (half hour training/half hour game).  Occasionally your team will go to Warkworth to play against Mahurangi.  2022 playing dates listed at the end of this document.

Girls & Boys Rippa (U9), Girls Rip Rugby (U11/U13/U15) & Boys Rip U11/U13/U15

Girls and Boys Rippa and Rip Rugby is for 7-15 year olds and is played on a Saturday morning.  These teams play alternate weeks home and away at other North Harbour Clubs.  (Home venues are Silverdale Rugby Club, Victor Eaves Park in Orewa, Metro Park in Millwater and Red Beach Park).  More information on North Harbour grounds below in the J1-J6 tackle section.  Trainings are usually held on a Wednesday or Thursday, depending on which team you are in and what day and time suits your coach. Saturday game times are set by North Harbour Rugby and are not confirmed yet, but are generally either 9.30am, 10.40am or 11.50am. 

J1-J6 Tackle Rugby

J1-J6 Rugby is for 7-13 year olds (up to Year 8 at school).  J1-J6 Rugby teams have one training night during the week.  Your training night will most likely be either a Wednesday or Thursday depending on the availability of the coach.  Trainings are from approximately

4-6pm.  Training starts around the middle-end of  March. Your coach will contact you to tell you when and where your first training is.

Games are on Saturday mornings. Game times are usually either 9.30am, 10.40am or 11.50am.  Games are either 25 or 30 minute halves depending on the grade, with a 5 minute half time break.  Saturday morning games are played at our home grounds which are: Silverdale Rugby Club, Victor Eaves Park in Orewa and Metro Park in Millwater- Silverdale and Red Beach Park.

On alternate Saturday’s your team will travel away to play against, and at other North Harbour Clubs. North Harbour venues can be found on the North Harbour Rugby website.

Friday night games

We try to get every team a Friday night game at the club (instead of playing on Saturday morning).  This is always a great night for the children, playing under the lights and a time for the whole family to enjoy a night out at the Silverdale Rugby & Sports Club.  Bar and kitchen open for families to purchase meals etc.

Team/Group training and activities

Mouth guards are compulsory and players will get a free mouth guard at their first training.

Players need to wear Silverdale rugby shorts and Silverdale Socks.

Shorts - $40.00, Socks - $20.00. These can be purchased online at

Game jerseys are supplied each week (not to be taken home by players!). Your team manager will collect the jerseys in at the end of the game a parents take a turns in washing the bag of jerseys.

Boots are compulsory.
