Silverdale Premiers vs Helensville: 31-3

We’ve had a few games on the road so it was nice to be back at home this weekend to host Helensville.

We kicked off & knock the ball on to have the first scrum. Our scrum is very strong and the ball pops out with Taylor Norwood almost getting to it first, but Helensville gather and pass the ball wide which results in a strong run down the line to get into our half. As the rain comes down Helensville stack multiple phases against us, but we defend well and they don’t gain much territory. But the weather gets the better of them and they knock the ball on. We win our scrum, pass wide then kick through, but the ball beats our winger into touch. Helensville kick after the lineout and we make multiple phases across the field until Helensville make a high tackle. We kick to touch, win the lineout and drive a maul to the line. Chyle van Zyl has a go at the try line but is denied, so we take the next phase out wide to give the backs a chance. Helensville defend 2-3 phases, but a loose ball is gathered by Gannon Moore and he runs hard to the corner post to score a try. Its unconverted. 5-0 to Silverdale.

Helensville kick off short which we gather and run a couple of phases midfield before they kick midfield which Helensville gather and make a break across field and down the line. But PJ van Zyl comes flying across to make a strong tackle to put their player out into touch. We win the lineout and string multiple phases together to work towards Helensville’s 22. We kick for territory but it goes to hand and Helensville kick the ball out. This time we lose the lineout, then get caught offside. All of a sudden Helensville are at our 22. The ball is greasy and we knock the ball on. We scrum strong and push Helensville backwards but they manage to pass it out in time and start an attack. This is followed by a kick through which we gather and run out of our 22. A long kick gives us some territory, but Helensville run strongly back at us and back into our 22. A loose ball we retrieve and gain a penalty to kick the ball to touch. A knock on after the lineout gives our possession away and Helensville run off their lineout and then they knock the ball on. We are let off. Our scrum is strong again and we chip kick through and the ball beats everyone into touch. We win their lineout and pass quickly out wide to the other side of the field. We quickly get into their 22 until a turnover results in a ruck. Helensville kick and it ends up in our hands with Gannon Moore running strongly all the way to the try line. He dots down in the corner, the same corner he was in 20 minutes ago, bit his legs are dragged into touch. Helensville work their way out of their half and we get caught offside just outside our 22 so Helensville kick for a penalty goal. Its good and we lead 5-3.

Helensville gather our kick off and each team trades kicks until we run it back at them. Gannon Moore finds a gap and with only one man to beat passes inside to captain Dan Goodfellow but its too low and we lose the ball. We soon get the ball back and work our way back into their 22. Its short lived with a big tackle by Helensville and we knock the ball on. Helensville win their scrum and both teams are back trading kicks to maximise territory. It works in our favour and we get into their 22 and then Helensville infringe. We kick to touch, drive the lineout over the try line for Dan Goodfellow to score. Its converted. 12-3 to Dale.

We knock on at the kick off and Helensville attack multiple phase at us, then receive a penalty and have earned the right to be at our 5m line. But their throw in is long and loose and we get the ball back to kick out around our 22. We win the lineout and kick the ball out past halfway. We defend a bit too strongly and our hooker is sent off for overturning a player in a tackle. Helensville work their way down field until a pass goes into our hands and we get out of our 22. Soon after Helensville get the ball back and they work their way up to our 22 again. But a midfield fumble gives us the ball back and we work into their half. This takes us into the half-time break at 12-3 to Dale.

At the restart Helensville kick off and we return a kick down the line. They return the favour and we kick back deep for their fullback to bang it into touch at halfway. We drive off the lineout and string some phases together and get deep past their 22. But Helensville’s defence is good and they secure a ruck to win a penalty. Helensville kick deep again and soon gather the ball back to get back into our 22. We kick out past halfway and gain some valuable territory back. Some midfield attacks result in a knock on by us and Helensville have a scrum just outside our 22. But we win the scrum and kick deep again. Their returning kick is not good and we get a lineout just outside their 22. We drive off the lineout down field and create some opportunities at their line, but we get caught with hands in the ruck and let the pressure off them. Helensville string some phases together but make a mistake and we get another opportunity midfield. But its short lived when we loose the ball in a tackle. But Helensville infringe in the scrum and all of a sudden we are on their 5m line. We drive from the line out, then pass out wide for Tom Taula to score in the corner. Its unconverted. 17-3 to Dale.

Helensville kick off and the ball is carried into touch. We win our lineout, run it out but make a knock on to turn over possession. Helensville capitalise and get into our 22 before we get it back, but this is followed by a charge down from our kick and this sees them miss a close touch down in goal. This is the best opportunity Helensville have seen. We kick from the goal line and Helensville run multiple phases at us. Our defence holds and they can’t penetrate us. We get the ball back from a penalty and work our way into their 22. We dominate the scrum and find ourselves on their 5m line with a lineout. From the driving maul we pass wide, then a cross field kick which goes to ground and Helensville get possession and run it out of their 22. They kick deep and we kick it out to touch. The next period sees some midfield play and we capitalise  and a kick bounces our way to the hands of Tom Taula who makes a pass infield to Gannon Moore in open space and this gives us our fourth try. Its converted 24-3 to Dale.

Helensville knock on at the kick off and we run it out off the scrum. We work well down field with gannon Moore finding space to make a pass to prop Mosese Fosita who runs straight through a defender and across the line. Its converted 31-3 to Dale.

We receive the kick off but lose it in a ruck and Helensville run it at us. They make no ground and get pushed back into their half. We are rewarded by getting the ball back and work deep into Helensville’s half. Some more phases each way sees us to the final whistle.

Our Player of the Day went to ZANE TURNER for his huge input and effort in scoring tries and setting them up.

Next weekend we travel to Kumeu on the long weekend so expect to see a decent crowd.
